Writing Enrichment
About Program
Our writing enrichment program offers students the opportunity to develop their writing skills and cultivate good habits.
Experienced instructors guide students toward becoming independent, effective and eloquent writers through: prewriting, organizing, writing, revising, editing and evaluating. Students receive instructor feedback through every step of the process.
We offer:
- Essay writing.
- Creative writing.
- Short research papers.
Essay Writing
Effectively writing different types of essays is critical to academic success. Essay writing is a common school assignment, a part of standardized tests, and a requirement on college applications. There are over a dozen types of essays that fit into four major categories: expository, persuasive, narrative and descriptive.
Students will:
- Write well-organized essays with their own style and form.
- Sharpen grammar and vocabulary skills.
- Learn to edit and revise their work.
- Be exposed to examples of good writing.
Creative Writing
Creative writing is different from other writing genres because the writer is given the freedom to use his or her imagination to the fullest. However, it doesn’t come easily for most students. Our instructors will help students spark imagination and teach them techniques that will bring their words to vivid life.
Students will:
- Learn how to capture a reader’s attention.
- Receive guidance on how to write what they see, hear, taste, touch and smell.
- Develop characters and fully describe settings.
- Be guided on how to find their own voice and style.
Short Research Papers
Writing a research paper is an essential aspect of academics. Though there are steps and stages to writing such a paper, the process is not linear and is often messy. Instructors will help students pick a topic then guide them through: brainstorming, organizing, outlining, thesis, intro, body, conclusion, editing, revising and evaluating.
Students will:
- Expand their knowledge on a topic of interest.
- Learn to write clearly and succinctly.
- Sharpen grammar and vocabulary skills.
- Edit, revise and evaluate their work.
